How to Steal Pricing Secrets…Legally

In the Star Trek series, Vulcans like Spock have the ability to telepathically link with other beings through a process called the mind meld. By chanting “my mind to your mind, my thoughts to your thoughts” while touching someone else’s head, the Vulcans are able to probe that person’s deepest thoughts, sharing their secrets, memories, and emotions.

Here at PricingBrew, we like to think that we offer the opportunity for a mind meld that reveals secrets but doesn’t require the physical contact or the weird chanting. (And this mind meld doesn’t reveal anything embarrassing either.)

We have thousands of subscribers from companies of all different sizes—from the Fortune 50 all the way down to very small businesses. And our members come from firms in a whole host of different industries as well. That means you have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of wide range of different pricing professionals who are all trying different techniques.

Often people assume that the largest companies have the most strategic pricing teams, and that folks from smaller companies are the ones learning from the people at big corporations.

Sometimes that’s true. But we find that the learning actually flows both ways.

You see, in the same way that startups can take risks with new products and markets that larger, more established cannot, smaller companies can sometimes experiment with pricing techniques that would be more difficult to try with a larger team. These smaller organizations are acting as incubators for cutting-edge techniques and approaches that most leading pricing teams may use someday. And sometimes they tried something that was a big mistake they want to be sure to avoid next time.

Our researchers have the opportunity to interact with all these folks and to tap into their experience, expertise (and blunders) when putting together our blog posts, webinars, guides, and other resources. So when you watch or read those materials, it’s like you’re experiencing a mind meld with thousands of other pricing professionals and learning what works and what doesn’t.

One of the best ways to experience that mind meld is through our webinars, like Powerhouse Pricing Teams. Based on research on some of the best pricing teams in existence, it explores the traits and behaviors exhibited by leaders in the field. Another webinar, Avoiding the Top 10 Pricing Mistakes exposes the big mistakes we’ve heard from others…so you can steer clear.

And if you have a specific question about pricing, you can always submit it through our Pricing Help Desk. Our research team has just about seen and heard it all, so posing a question to our team is a great way to get some advice on a challenge you may be facing.
